Hearst Castle in Fog

An amazing evening spent with best friends at the Hearst Castle after
the Best Buddies Ride. Still attempting to grok what it took in time,
resources, strategy and money to create such a place.

  1. That's not a shot you see everyday. Very nice indeed: sort of a Disco of the Gods.

Think about how rich Hearst was. The "ranch" that Hearst Castle was part of ran to over 200,000 acres. There's a full-sized replica of a Spanish Mission over at Ft. Hunter Liggett, at the far end of the old rancho, that Hearst had built simply as his hunting lodge. Today it's the NCO club.

Today's moguls hide their wealth for safety, but in Hearst's day the rich were freer to flaunt their wealth and exercise it openly in outrageous ways.
